Clyde Browne was a printer in the Los Angeles area for approximately forty years until his death in 1942. He was born in 1872 in Old Hickory, Ohio and in 1902 or 1903, moved to Los Angeles, where he worked at the Los Angeles Examiner for four years. In 1909, he set up his own print shop, and by 1910 had established the firm of Browne and Cartwright with Alexander Cartwright. Lawrence Clark Powell was a noted writer and librarian. Powell was well-known for his writings on librarianship and the literature of the American Southwest, including books such as Books West Southwest and Southwest Classics. He served as head librarian at UCLA from 1944 to 1961, when he became the founding dean of the UCLA Graduate School of Library Service.
